The Department of Information Technology, Electronics & Communications (DITE&C) has announced hosting the Goa AI Hackathon to promote the use of Artificial Intelligence in government service delivery. The initiative -- part of the Goa AI Mission 2027 -- focuses on improving efficiency, transparency and citizen-centric governance through emerging technologies.
Director of DITE&C, Kabir Shirgaonkar, said Artificial Intelligence had become integral to modern governance and required careful and responsible integration. “Artificial Intelligence is here to stay and it’s imperative that we integrate it ethically and responsibly into governance... the hackathon would focus on practical governance challenges. Through this AI Hackathon, we aim to explore solutions such as automated verification of government scheme applications, early identification of missing information and timely delivery of benefits to eligible citizens. Our ultimate goal is improving public service delivery,” he said.
Under the program, all government departments, corporations, autonomous bodies and local authorities have been invited to submit problem statements drawn from routine governance and service delivery challenges. These submissions are expected to clearly identify areas where AI-based interventions can improve efficiency and outcomes.
After scrutiny and evaluation of the problem statements, DITE&C will support the development of AI-powered solutions customised to the specific needs of the participating departments.
Officials said the Goa AI Hackathon builds on the momentum generated by the Goa Open Innovation Challenge 2025, which encouraged startups and student innovators to work on high-impact governance problems. That initiative received 557 applications from across the country.
