In a quaint move, the Goa Governor P S Sreedharan Pillai on Thursday announced that financial aid will be given from his discretionary purse to as many as 71 old-age homes, orphanages and such institutions.
Why 71? The number could be linked to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's birthday -- the seventy-first on Friday.
Pillai also said that 71 persons suffering from renal failure will get financial assistance for their dialysis treatment.
The money for these charitable initiatives will be drawn from the Governor's discretionary fund.
In his message on the eve of Modi's birthday, Pillai said: "The country is blessed to have such a visionary leader devoted to the nation’s service and welfare of the people."
Pillai, who took over as Governor of Goa a couple of months ago, also praised the Prime Minister for his 'brilliant' pandemic management and his ideas for a fully-developed India, ie “Atma Nirbhar Bharat”.
Those interested in the aid offered by the Governor need to apply with their personal details and institutions must list their activities.
For the dialysis treatment, the applicants must mention the hospital at which the treatment is being taken and all applications must be addressed to the Governor's secretary and reach the Raj Bhavan by September 30.
The 71 beneficiaries in each of the two categories will be picked on a first-come-first-serve basis.
