Claims on pretext of ‘some personal work’, Fakir sought his company to Amboli
PANAJI
Nirupadi Karakal claimed that the prime murder accused Prakash Chunchwad alias Fakir threatened to kill him if he refused to accompany him to dispose of Kamakshi’s body. In fact, in his submission to the Court, Karakal stated that Fakir initially tried to seek his company to Amboli Ghat on the pretext of ‘some personal work.’
“The main accused thereafter murdered the deceased at her rented flat in Solson’s Apartment, Porvorim, transported her body in his car booty. Fakir telephoned Karakal requesting him to accompany him to Amboli for some personal work. On the way, he told Karakal that he had murdered his girlfriend and asked the Applicant to help him throw the body in the Amboli Ghat,” Karakal’s lawyer told the Court during the bail hearing.
He further submitted that when Karakal refused to help him, Fakir threatened to kill the former if he informed the police, his family members, or anyone else about the incident.
“Karakal became nervous and did not know what to do. Hence, after reaching home, he had his dinner and went to sleep,” the lawyer said, narrating the sequence of the event post-murder.
The Porvorim police’s ongoing investigation has revealed that Fakir was repeatedly seen near the deceased’s apartment on the day of the murder, raising strong suspicion that he abducted her. He was arrested from Socorro and in his interrogation, confessed to committing the offence.
“Hence, with the help of the Sawantwadi Police, the body was recovered at the instance of the main accused. The post mortem thereof indicates that the cause of death was due to haemorrhage and shock caused by multiple stab injuries over the neck caused by sharp-edged cutting weapon like a knife, ante mortem and necessarily fatal at the time of death. The weapon of assault i.e. the knife was recovered and attached under a panchanama,” the investigation states.
