Kamaxi promised `32 crore @ 24 % returns to investors

The Economic Offences Cell on Wednesday got down to number crunching on the financial implications of the Kamaxi Forex scam. It is now come to light that Nilesh Raikar (43), director of Kamaxi Forex Pvt Ltd and prime accused in the case owes around Rs 15 crore to his investors.

Sources from the Economic Offences Cell of Goa Police disclosed that 503 complaints have been received in the case with the final maturity amount of the fixed deposits being around Rs 32,12,63,516.
“However, based on the data from 321 of these complainants, the principal investment has been pegged at Rs 10,90,32,000. Going by average investments, this figure may go up to Rs 15 crore once we receive inputs from the remaining 182 complainants,” it was stated.
Interestingly, it was also revealed that Raikar used to offer around 24 per cent interest on his fixed deposit schemes, thereby attracting numerous investors.
EOC on Monday evening had arrested the wife and mother of Kamaxi Forex scam accused Raikar, barely hours after a delegation of the Goan Sea Men Association of India (GSAI) called on the Superintendent of Police Priyanka Kashyap.
Rekha Raikar, the mother of Nilesh and who is a listed director of the company Kamaxi Forex as well as his wife Nilima Raikar have been arrested and remanded to two days police custody.
While, Raikar’s custody has been extended till Friday, his wife and mother are to be produced before JMFC Margao on Thursday. Their bail application was rejected on Tuesday by the same court.

Khaunte goes to Lokayukta, alleges racket

Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte on Wednesday filed a complaint with Lokayukta PK Mishra alleging scam in the beach cleaning contract, alleging that it is a premeditated conspiracy involving the Tourism Minister and all other officers of the Department to defraud the state exchequer.
