Kandepar bridge work inspected

PONDA: South Goa MP Adv Narendra Sawaikar on Sunday took stock of the ongoing work of four lane bridge at Khandepar-Ponda and its service roads.

The bridge is expected to be commissioned by April 2018. The span of the bridge is 106 metres long and 24 metres wide and the estimated cost is Rs 241 crore, funded by the central government.

Ponda Municipal Council acting Chairperson Shantaram Kolvekar, Councillors Vishwanath Dalvi and Sunil Desai, Curti Khandepar panch Sandeep Khandeparkar, PWD AE Dattaprasad Kamat and others were present.

Kamat informed Sawaikar that the work of the project will be completed by May 2017, but it will be commissioned one year later, as construction of 7-km stretch of national highway from Usgao to Ponda will take time as utilities like underground pipelines are obstructing the pace of work and has to be done carefully.

Sawaikar said they had promised people to fulfill their demand of bridge and it will be completed.

“This bridge will ease traffic congestion in Khandepar area,” he added.
