PANAJI: Leader of Opposition Chandrakant “Babu” Kavlekar has sought time until the end of the upcoming budget session of the Goa Legislative Assembly to heed the summons he received from the Anti Corruption Branch of the Goa Police.
Speaking to reporters, Superintendent of Police Priyanka Kashyap informed that Kavlekar had written to them that in view of the upcoming budget session he is busy with the preparation and hence would not be able to attend.
He was summoned to appear on Monday.
However, Kavlekar’s request is unlikely to cut much ice with the ACB who are now expected to issue a fresh summons after examining his request in detail.
The Anti Corruption Bureau had booked Kavlekar and his wife under Anti Corruption Act upon the conclusion of seven and half years of the probe into his assets and properties. ACB has listed at least 14 properties purchased by Kavlekar between January 2007 and April 2013 in Kerala while also calculating that Kavlekar's disproportionate assets at a whopping 59.21 per cent of his declared sources of income. On Saturday, ACB had raided his Betul residence and his offices at Quepem and Margao.
