Last week, Health Minister and Deputy Chief Minister Francis D’Souza announced that the government would be paying `  120 crore as part of the scheme to United India Insurance, that was awarded the tender.
According to the scheme, a three-member family or less would have to pay an annual renewal charge of `  200 while a family with four or more members would have to pay `  300 annually. Coverage would be given to around 447 different ailments including diabetes.
According to the tender document, the insurance company would have to compulsorily empanel a minimum of one private hospital in the talukas of Bardez, Bicholim, Mormugao, Quepem, Tiswadi, Ponda and Salcete within 30 days of signing the agreement.
District kiosks to be set up by the insurance company will therefore be located at the district headquarters which will be issued to the company by the government.
Documents that would be required to avail the insurance scheme include passport, driving license, ration card, bank account and election card. Based on submission of the required documents, beneficiaries will be given a smart card that will store the information of insurers.
District kiosk would be equipped with hardware as well as software for the purpose of issuing new smart cards or renewal or issue of a fresh smart card. Increasing the number of kiosks would depend on the government and will be done through the Directorate of Health Services.
