Konkan Railway police achieves breakthrough in Rs 4 cr gold heist

The Konkan railway police achieved a major breakthrough in the Rs four crore gold heist in a running train when they busted an inter-state gang involved in the crime.

Konkan Railway Police station Superintendent of Police Gurudas Gawde informed that the sensational theft case in a moving train at Canacona on May 2 has been detected with the arrest of four persons, Sandeep Bhosale (40), resident of Kavathe-Sangli, Akshay of Belagavi-Karnataka, Archana More of Taloja-Mumbai and Dhanpat Baid (44) of Parel East, Mumbai.

SP Gawde informed that the police has recovered stolen gold -- gold bars in melted form, weighing 1900 grams in different size and shape valued around Rs one crore.

Besides, cash of Rs 50,000 has been recovered from the accused persons. The four persons have been remanded to four days of police custody.

The incident occurred on May 2 when one Ashok R, a resident of Nagpada-Mumbai working for Madhu Ornaments, Mumbai as an office boy complained regarding the theft of a trolley bag/suitcase containing freshly made gold ornaments, which he was carrying on behalf of his employer Sampat Jain, weighing over seven kilograms worth Rs four crore when two unknown persons travelling from Panvel to Thiruvananthapuram by the Gandhidham Humsafar Superfast Express decamped with the trolley when the train had stopped for crossing at the Canacona railway station.

SP Gawde further informed that upon meticulous and scientific investigations, the Konkan Railway police managed to zero down on two suspects and the police team led by DySP Gurudas Kadam and PI Sunil Gudlar headed to Maharashtra and Karnataka and arrested two persons Kavthe and Akshay.

The police also later arrested two more persons Archana More and Dhanpat.

SP Gawde said during the custodial interrogation of the accused persons, it was revealed that the lady Archana had allegedly provided information regarding the exact date and time of the transportation of the gold ornaments in the specific train on a specific date and train by a specific carrier.
