The Akhil Bharatiya Konkani Sahitya Parishad will organise the Konkani Sahitya Sammelan which will be held in Canacona on February 2-3, 2019.
A meeting was recently convened at ‘Gotter’, Chaudi-Canacona to chalk out various activities to successfully hold the prestigious event, as the opportunity has come after a gap of 38 years in the taluka.
According to Konkani literature awardee Kamlakar Mhalshi, who chaired the meeting, the 8th Konkani Sahitya Adiveshan was held in Canacona in 1981 and no efforts will be spared to make this convention a grand success.
“It is also decided to give suitable place of pride to all Konkani stalwarts by recognizing and appreciating their contributions to the cause and upliftment of Konkani language,” informed working committee president Gaurish Vernekar.
Konkani Bhasha Mandal President Chetan Acharya suggested the infusion of new blood into the deliberations in order to get new ideas in the organisation of the event.
Mhalshi also advocated that niz Canconkars and niz Goenkars who have worked and have shown their love for Konkani in the past should be called and involved so that their valuable inputs are taken in organising the Sammelan.
Dr Purnanand Chari, professor (Konkani) at Shri Mallikarjun College, suggested an awareness rally regarding the convention across the Konkan region.
Speakers at the meet also felt the need to hold a special drive and opt members on the committee from Mangalore, Udupi, Yellapur and other Konkani-speaking regions for better participation at the Sammelan.
They also called for the involvement and participation of students, teachers, Konkani associations and Konkani lovers at the Sammelan.
Konkani writer Devidas Kadam, Vayjayanti Prabhugaonkar, Prasad Pagui, Karishma Dessai, Sudesh Naik, Ajit Poinginkar, Yogita Vernekar, Uday Naik, Shirish Pai, Sanjay Komarpant, Raghuvir Desai, Suraj Komarpant, Subhash Mahale, Pankaj Namshikar, Vithoba Velip and Prasanna Pagi, also gave their inputs at the meet.
