Strange it may seem but true that the Kadamba Transport Corporation (KTC) has resorted to burning of wood and other wastes at its Margao depot to make way for the installation of a battery charging station for the proposed electric buses set to join the fleet in the New Year.
The entire space behind the existing office block is being cleaned and cleared of wild bushes and deadwood to make way for the electric charging station for the 50 electric buses. However, instead of disposing of the wood and other waste in a proper manner, it was set afire.
Inquiries by The Goan has revealed that the entire place behind the depot office is being cleaned up ahead of the installation of the battery charging station for the 50 electric buses.
Managing Director, KTC Venancio Furtado, informed that the Hyderabad-based company is scheduled to hand over the 50 electric buses to the KTC by January next year under a central government scheme.
“Since it has been decided to set up the battery charging station at the Margao KTC depot, the place was being cleaned up for the battery charging station. The charging facility will be set up in Margao where the electric buses will come and charge their batteries every day,” he added. The entire work of installing the charging station will be carried out by the company.
