PANAJI: Rejecting the Crime Branch’s plea for extension of time to probe the case of cheating and grabbing of Serula Communidade land against Tourism Minister Dilip Parulekar, Special Court of Panaji on Thursday directed the Crime Branch of Goa Police to submit the report along with case diary within eight days.
The matter has been adjourned to March 28.
Special Court Judge B P Deshpande rejected, under the Prevention of Corruption Act, Crime Branch’s plea for further eight weeks time to investigate the cheating and land grab case filed by Adv Aires Rodrigues against Parulekar.
Special Court has also directed the crime branch to attach the file pertaining to the case from North Goa Collector’s office.
On a petition filed by Adv Aires Rodrigues under Section 156 (3) of the Criminal Procedure Code, the Mapusa JMFC directed the Porvorim Police to register an FIR for offences under Sections 119 (public servant concealing design to commit offence which it is his duty to prevent), 120 (concealing design to commit offence punishable with imprisonment), 420 (heating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property) read with 120-B (punishment of criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code, against Parulekar, Peter Martins, the then Attorney of Communidade of Serula and Irene Sequeira, then Administrator of Communidade of Bardez for alleged connivance and land grab of 599 sq mt land on Chogm Road, Porvorim.
The FIR was registered on January 17, 2014 and after a lull in activity for almost three to four months, Mapusa JMFC, on August 14, 2014 decided to monitor the investigation while directing the crime branch to submit fortnightly reports.
It was on October 7, 2014 that the court ordered crime branch to complete its investigation within a month. Since then, the crime branch has been seeking extension in time for completion of the probe into the case.
The investigation of the case was later transferred to the Crime Branch.
