A landslide on the railway tracks at Collem-Dudhsagar disrupted rail services on Tuesday morning, forcing the diversion and cancellation of some trains of the South Western Railways along the Konkan railway route.
The landslide consisted of several large boulders, making it tedious for railway teams to clear.
Speaking to The Goan, an officer at the Dudhsagar railway station said the landslide had occurred in the morning and that work to clear the debris and other civil work was in progress till late evening.
“Shortly after the incident occurred in the morning, the work to clear the debris and other civil work began and we hope to complete this work by tonight,” the officer said.
Speaking to reporters on the status of trains diverted and cancelled on account of the landslide, Vasco Railway Station Manager P C Chacko said the Goa Express (Train 12779) had been diverted via Konkan Railway Corporation Limited (KRCL) routes and left at 17.10 hours, instead of 15.10 hours. “The Ernakulam-Pune Express (Train 11098) was also diverted through KRCL routes,” he said.
Chacko added that the Vasco-Bangalore link coaches (Train 02779) attached to the Goa Express had been cancelled between Vasco and Hubballi stations due to the landslide.
