PANAJI : Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) on Tuesday demanded the Goa assembly be dissolved and the state (vidhan sabha) election be conducted simultaneously with the Loksabha elections.
NCP state vice-president Avinash Bhosle in a press conference said that the party doesn’t have any problem if there is president's rule till the elections are held.
Interestingly, lone party MLA Churchill Alemao has a different stand from the party.
Speaking about their MLA's uncertain stand Avinash Bhonsle said, “We don't know what stand our lone MLA Churchill Alemao will take. But as a party, we are with the people.”
Bhonsle said that man who sacrificed a Defense Minister's portfolio to come back to Goa has now showed willingness to leave the CM’s post due to his ailing health.
In these circumstances, the people of Panaji have to face an election for the third-time. This will result in a waste of public money. So it is better to dissolve the assembly and have a simultaneous election of both Lok Sabha and Goa vidhansabha.
Criticizing the government, Bhonsle said, “BJP misused the power at a center to form a government in Goa.”
The MLAs from other parties who were given ministries have failed in their performance, he alleged.
People are suffering on account of shortage of water supply, potholes due to failures of concerned ministers, he said.
Bhonsle also criticised the Goa forward and MGP alleging that they had given support to this government on the condition that Manohar Parrikar should be CM. Now they are speaking in a different tone, he said.
"Politics has become person-centric. This is not good sign for democracy," he added.

'Cannot keep administration paralysed for long'
VASCO: The NCP State President Jose Philip D'Souza on Tuesday said it was high time the BJP takes a call on future course of action regarding the present political situation and uncertainties prevailing in Goa.
“The administration cannot be paralysed for the sake of the chaos and confusion amid coalition partners of the ruling government who are at loggerheads over the post of the next possible chief minister,” said D'Souza, while addressing a news conference.
"The BJP's central observers had visited Goa and had talks with legislators of the ruling coalition. But now, there is news that matters will be decided after central leaders in Delhi are consulted. Can innocent Goans wait till eternity till central leadership decides its next course of action,” asked D'Souza, who has one party MLA Churchill Alemao, in the assembly.
“Administration and development cannot be paralysed for the sake of one decision as this is the government of the people. For the last several months, there has been no development nor works in the absence of the chief minister," he added.
Refusing to get drawn into issues surrounding the ailments of ministers in the government, D'Souza, however, said the administration had gone from bad to worse.
“There are ministers with ailments and there is no work happening in their departments. I don't want to comment on their ailments, but it is the need of the hour that a decision has to be taken immediately in the larger interest of Goa and Goans.”
“Someone fit has to take the leadership or if this is not possible, they must allow others to handle the administration instead of making Goans suffer. We just demand stable and good governance immediately," said the NCP state president.
