The Legal Metrology on Thursday cracked a whip on imported mineral water sold in violation of the packaged commodities rules.
In a major raid at Hotel Leela, the Legal Metrology department, Margao has seized imported mineral drinking water for not bearing name and address of importer, month and year of import, maximum retail price and net quantity. The team also seized one electronic weighing instrument unverified and unstamped and kept for use in hotel premises.
The raid was carried out by Vikas Kandolkar, Inspector Legal Metrology, Margao along with Nitin Purushan, Inspector Legal Metrology, Vasco under the guidance of Kiran B Kossambe, Controller Legal Metrology and under the supervision of Arun Panchwadkar, Assistant Controller South Zone-I.
Vikas Kandolkar told The Goan that the Legal Metrology department is investigating the matter and will initiate appropriate proceedings against all those responsible for the import of the mineral bottles in violation of rules.
“This is just the beginning. The Legal Metrology department will check and verify all such violations in major hotels against the violators,” he said.
