Calangute MLA Michael Lobo has reiterated his support for the legalization of 'matka' gambling claiming it will positively impact Goa’s GST collection and offer legitimate job opportunities to those presently involved in illegal gambling activities.
During a discussion on the floor of the House on Wednesday, Lobo pitched for bringing legislation for matka under the purview of lotteries.
“This move will lead to significant profits for the State government… Those currently involved in the activity illegally can earn money through legal means,” he said.
In previous assembly sessions even when he was a minister in the BJP government, Lobo had consistently called for a debate on the advantages of legalizing matka.
Lobo had further stated that its legalization would pave the way for nearly 20,000 young individuals involved in matka gambling syndicates in Goa to secure formal employment opportunities.
