OLD GOA
Locals of Dhauji have demanded an overbridge at the railway crossing to alleviate the sufferings of those who have to waste a lot of time there.
The locals made the demand when they, along with local Congress leader Vishal Volvoikar, descended at the site in anticipation of a visit by the Konkan Railway MD.
“We had come to know that the Konkan Railway MD was supposed to visit Dhauji for inspection of the tunnel. So, we wanted to question him on the progress of the overbridge construction,” said Volvoikar.
“We were then informed by the staff stationed at the crossing that the MD would not halt at Dhauji. The locals here are suffering as they have to wait endlessly when a train passes by. Sometimes ambulances are also stuck in the traffic jams,” Volvoikar stated.
A local, Braz D’Silva, also highlighted the plight of those residing in Dhauji, Gaundalim, and nearby areas.
“We are made to wait endlessly at the crossing, which is the reason why we have been demanding that an overbridge be built here to alleviate our suffering,” D’Silva stated.
“The soil testing for the overbridge was done around 12 years back but till date, there’s no progress on the construction of the overbridge,” D’Silva lamented, adding that school students and office goers also suffer due to the waste of time at the railway crossing.
Later, as the gate was closed, Volvoikar, D’Silva, and others approached those waiting at the crossing to register their demands for an overbridge.
