With the contractor racing against time to complete the Lohia Maidan beautification ahead of Goa Revolution Day on June 18, the statue of Dr Ram Manohar Lohia has been shifted once against from the pedestal in order to raise the height of the pedestal.
The contractor is on the job to raise the height of the pedestal after freedom fighters complained that the pedestal erected at the Maidan to install Lohia’s life-size statue is too short. Initially, the contractor had maintained that he had only executed the job entrusted to him by the consultant appointed by Goa State Urban Development Agency (GSUDA). He later, however, agreed to raise the pedestal after the freedom fighters and the 18th June freedom fighters committee requested the consultant to make the necessary changes to ensure that Lohia’s statue stands tall at the Maidan.
The contractor has been set June 15 as the deadline to complete the work before the Maidan plays host to the Goa Revolution Day programme on June 18.
