Will Sub-Divisional Police Officer, Margao DySP Raju Raut Desai and his investigating team find out how the LPG seal was found hanging on the cylinder in the Benaulim gas pilferage case when petroleum company and Civil supplies officials claimed that the seal was not tampered with?
This question has come to the fore as the police investigating into the LPG pilferage case appears baffled over the claim made by the petroleum officials that they did not find the seal on the gas cylinder tamp
While DySP Raju Raut was not available for comment, Colva police station in-charge, PI Filomena Costa, who is assisting Sub-Divisional Police Officer, Margao in the investigations of the case, conceded that the seal was found hanging on the cylinder as seen on photographs published by the media. "We are indeed trying to find out how come the seal was found hanging on the LPG cylinder at the time when the residents alleged that pilferage was underway in the delivery van. All these questions will be answered in the police inquiry underway into the case," PI Costa stated.
It's now two months since the alleged gas pilferage incident had occurred at Pedda-Benaulim when local residents noticed delivery boys allegedly transferring gas from a domestic cylinder into a commercial one with the help of a device. However, police investigations into the case have not made much headway since June 6 when the incident had occurred in the coastal village.
What's further interesting to note is that both the petroleum company and Civil supplies officials have stated that they did not find the seal tampered when photographs and video footage have conclusively proved the contrary.
The gas pilferage issue had figured prominently in the ongoing session of the Goa Legislative Assembly when Benaulim MLA Churchill Alemao raised it in the House, drawing attention of Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar to incidents of gas pilferage, prompting him to promise action in such incidents.
