With the two prime accused in the Birch by Romeo Lane nightclub fire case back behind bars, the spotlight shifts to the Mapusa Additional Sessions Court on Thursday, where the State is set to respond to their fresh bail pleas.
Saurabh Luthra and Gaurav Luthra filed fresh applications before the Sessions Court on Wednesday morning after the Supreme Court allowed them to seek bail afresh before the trial court.
The court has fixed the matter for Thursday afternoon to hear the State’s response. The date for detailed arguments on the bail applications is expected to be fixed subsequently.
The Luthra brothers are currently lodged at Colvale Central Jail after surrendering before the court in compliance with the Supreme Court’s directions.
They had moved the apex court after the High Court cancelled their earlier bail. Following the Supreme Court’s order, the accused surrendered and were remanded to judicial custody.
The fresh bail move comes as the prosecution continues to face scrutiny in the case stemming from one of Goa’s deadliest recent nightclub tragedies.
The Birch by Romeo Lane nightclub at Arpora was gutted in a devastating fire in December 2025, leaving 25 people dead. The victims died after being trapped in the premises and succumbing to suffocation and burn injuries.
