MARGAO
Where’s the FDA, was a question asked at the New Cake Corner, Fatorda, on Tuesday after customers raised an uproar over the alleged presence of fungus and maggots in cake pieces they bought.
While the two residents of Raia, Jessi Barbosa and Cyril D’Souza, claimed that they made frantic calls to the FDA on Tuesday morning to lodge their complaint, there was no reply from the authority, leaving them with no option but to call the media.
“We had bought the cakes on Tuesday morning at around 10 am, only to find fungus and maggots inside when we opened the boxes at home. When we had questioned the owner about the quality of the cakes, he had assured that the cakes have been produced only today morning,” they said, while demanding action against the bakery.
What agitated them the most was that there was no response from the FDA to attend to their call. “Whom are we supposed to call and lodge our complaint if not the FDA?” Jessi questioned, saying they did not call the police for the simple reason that the men-in-uniform would have served no purpose.
