Malpe tunnel: Trains disrupted for 2nd day
Workers toil to clear slurry from tracks in the tunnel at Malpe-Pernem.

Train services were disrupted along the Konkan Railway yet again on Wednesday, after slurry filled the tracks in the tunnel at Malpe-Pernem for the second successive day.

After railway workers had cleared the slurry from the tunnel late Tuesday evening, train services were restored at night.

However, slurry filled the tracks in the tunnel in the wee hours of Wednesday, prompting KR authorities to cancel, divert, short originate, short terminate and partially cancel trains across various routes.

A huge workforce was pressed into service to remove the slurry from the tunnel. KRCL CMD Santosh Kumar Jha had also monitored restoration works at the Pernem tunnel along with KR officials.

After continuous work, the slurry was finally removed and the Track Fit Certificate (TFC) was issued at 8.35 pm, enabling the restoration of traffic on the Konkan Railway route at Malpe-Pernem.
