The Air Intelligence Unit of Goa Customs foiled an attempt to smuggle gold and seized gold bars valued at Rs 12.36 lakh at Dabolim airport on Monday morning.
According to Additional Commissioner of Customs, Goa, G B Santimano, the officers of AIU were performing their duties during the arrival of Air India Flight AI-994 when the gold was seized.
“The officers headed by the Assistant Commissioner searched the aircraft
and apprehended one suspicious passenger. On interrogation, the passenger admitted he concealed the gold in
his rectum,” informed Santimano.
“The search of the passenger resulted in recovery of eight cut pieces of gold bars, totally weighing 462 grammes valued at Rs 12.36 lakh,” added Santimano. The the gold was seized under the provisions of Customs Act.
