The Azossim-Mandur gram sabha witnessed heated discussion over the issue of drain works as former sarpanch Ajit Bacal and his brother Anish Bacal cornered the panchayat over inaction in the matter.
Raking up the issue, the Bacal brothers alleged that in one instance sub-standard work has been done and in the other instance drain work was approved despite the existing one being in a good condition.
Later, the brothers questioned why no action has been taken by the panchayat authorities despite complaint being filed in this regard.
“The panchayat should cancel both the works and issue re-tenders while also blacklisting the contractor involved in undertaking sub-standard work,” former sarpanch Ajit demanded.
However, sarpanch Prashant Naik informed that he is waiting for the report from the BDO after which necessary action would be initiated.
“The matter is pending with the BDO and once the report is submitted, necessary action would be taken,” Naik added.
The issue of imposing garbage fee was also discussed with sarpanch Naik stating that directions have been received from the government in this regards.
“The notification states that Rs 720 be charged as garbage fee annually. However, since the panchayat does not have the necessary infrastructure to collect all types of garbage, we have decided to charge only Rs 360 per annum as we are going to collect only dry waste,” the sarpanch informed.
The issue of the need to change in the timing of the buses plying from Panaji to Mandur was also discussed with the villagers demanding that the timings should be set to the convenience of the people.
The villagers pointed out that they find it difficult to get direct buses to Mandur after 6 pm.
The issue of increasing the professional tax from the current Rs 600 to Rs 1200 was also taken up at the meet.
