Chairperson of Mapusa Municipal Council Priya Mishal on Wednesday assured to conduct an inquiry against the former chief officer for going against the council resolution while renewing the lease agreement of a city petrol pump and take necessary action within 15 days.
Several councillors slammed former chief officer Amitesh Shirovoikar for exceeding his brief and renewing the lease agreement of Ms Burye Petrol Pump for 10 years, when there was a council resolution for renewal of lease for only three years.
Demanding cancellation of the lease agreement of 10 years, the councillors said that it may be renewed for a period of three years and only after the owner clears the pending dues of Rs 70 lakh to the municipal council.
The city-fathers also brought to the attention of the council that the government had come out with a proposal to relocate petrol pumps on the outskirts of the city.
Ms Burye runs two petrol pumps which are in the heart of Mapusa city.
Chief Officer Chandrakant Shetkar informed the council members that a letter was issued to the owner renewing the lease agreement for 10 years.
“How could the former chief officer overrule the council resolution for renewal of lease for three years?” asked councillor Kamal D’Souza and demanded vigilance inquiry against the ex-chief officer.
