Mapusa Swacch plan

Mapusa Municipal Council (MMC) Chairperson Sandeep Falari has kick started a cleanliness drive in all 20 wards within the municipal area, giving a much needed fillip to his Mapusa Swacch plan for the city.

The drive which began on November 10 from Ward 19 will culminate on December 2 with the operation clean up ending in Ward 1.

“Every ward has been given one day each to carry out the cleanliness drive. One truck, four grass cutting machines, five sweepers and one supervisor has been deputed to each ward to clean the ward,” said MMC Chairperson Sandeep Falari.

Over grown shrubs will be trimmed and any debris left by the roadside will be lifted during the drive, the chairperson informed.

Falari has shown that he means business by chalking out a programme to clean up the wards and bring about a general improvement in the town.

As soon as the cleanliness drive ends, MMC will take up the work of filling potholes on all the roads in the wards.

“Just like the cleanliness drive, I have ensured that all the machinery and personnel will be put at work to carry out patch up of roads in all the wards within the municipal limit,” the chairperson disclosed.

The Mapusa chairperson has shown that he’s one step ahead among his peers. In an act of foresight, he has also put on paper his plans to carry out pre-monsoon works from March next year.

“Work on de-silting of all major Nullahs and gutters in all 20 wards will be taken up from March 1, 2016, to get ready before the monsoon sets in,” Falari said.

Four groups have been formed to carry out the de-silting work with five wards in each group. Group A will have Wards 14, 15, 16, 17 and 18, while Wards 6, 4, 3, 1 and 2 will comprise Group B. Similarly, Group C will have Wards 5, 11, 7, 8 and 20, while Ward 12, 10, 13, 9 and 19 will make up Group D.

“Each group will get one week (Tuesday to Saturday) to complete the de-silting work, while 15 labourers and two supervisors will be put on the job,” the chairperson informed.

Work to de-silt gutters in Mapusa Municipal market will be taken up from March 6 for seven Sundays at a stretch, the chairperson further disclosed. “About 50 labourers will be employed to clean the whole Mapusa market on these Sundays,” he added.

It may be recalled Sandeep Falari had made Mapusa Swacch as one of his top priorities after taking over as the chairperson of the council.
