In an emergency council meeting held on Thursday, the Mapusa Municipal Council has decided to illuminate all the entry points and key junctions in Mapusa with LED fixtures mounted on fancy decorative poles.
The council, however, will get all the work done through Goa State Urban Development Agency (GSUDA).
Passing a resolution in the one-point agenda emergency meeting, the council requested GSUDA to undertake proposals in the ongoing project of beautification and illumination of entry points of Mapusa.
The council has decided to illuminate the entry points of Mapusa from Assagao, Siolim, Karaswaddo, Bodgeshwar culvert on Parra road, Xim Canca bypass, Grand Morod and further up to Nandadeep building with erection of decorative street light poles with LED fixtures. Similarly, it was decided to illuminate the Mapusa market, Karraswaddo junction, Ghotnicho Vhal junction, court junction, Vrundavan Hospital/Sports Complex junction at Peddem and the present garbage site with the help of LED fixtures on 20 metres high mast poles.
A proposal was also moved to illuminate the Chacha Nehru Park, which is popular among the kids.
In another decision, the council has decided to remove overhead high tension and low tension lines from Union Pharmacy to old Asilo hospital and illuminate the road with decorative street light poles with LED fixtures. It was also decided to replace two transformers near the main gate in the market.
The council has also decided to illuminate the area surrounding the Milagres church.  “The illumination proposal is part of our beautification plan for the city. My focus is to make the city look beautiful in terms of aesthetics. Anyone entering the city should feel good,” said Rohan Kavlekar, Chairperson of Mapusa Municipal Council.
