Upset with the slow pace of work of laying a water pipeline in Khorlim-Mapusa, the local councillor has threatened to hold PWD responsible if water entered homes of residents during the monsoons and for any accidents due to faulty work. The water division of the PWD had taken up the work of laying a new water pipeline with a larger diameter in Khorlim in February just before the election code of conduct came into force.

The contractor has laid almost 2 km long water pipeline, but for some reasons the road has not been asphalted.

In a letter to the PWD chief engineer, local councillor Rajsingh Rane said the extracted mud while laying the pipeline has been dumped in rain water drains thereby chocking the drains. “If the mud is not removed before the onset of monsoon, the water may enter into surrounding houses,” Rane said.

He also said that at some place the mud has been stacked in front of the houses of the people thereby creating problem for them to enter into their houses. The councillor further said that a lot of traffic congestion takes place along the road and accidents have also taken place in the area.  “I request you to take necessary action to resolve the matter before the monsoon. If failed to do so, your department will be held responsible for any kind of water-logging or water entering into people’s houses or accidents,” Rane said.
