A resident of Parra, the accused has been absconding from the day the FIR was filed at the Mapusa Police station.
Mapusa Police on Tuesday had booked an offence of cheating and criminal breach of trust by a public servant against the accused, Vinod Mayenkar, an LDC in the Mapusa electricity department.
The employee had allegedly misappropriated Rs 28 lakh by transferring salaries in the name of five bogus staff employees. The alleged criminal activity was going on from April 2014 onwards.
The activity came to light recently when the accounts department stumbled on the salary bills of February in the name of five employees, which never existed.
An inquiry by the accounts department led them to the accused, LDC and the bank accounts were traced in his name.
