VASCO CLERIC
INCIDENT
MAPUSA
Crying for justice to the victim girl recently molested by a cleric in Vasco, the associates of Tara Kerkar on Saturday demanded immediate arrest of the wife of the cleric, who is behind bars for the alleged crime.
Addressing a news conference in Mapusa, Ashley Noronha of Tivim and Andrea Pereira of Santa Cruz, who claimed to be social activists, urged the Vasco Police to book the cleric’s wife under Section 195 IPC.
“Acting on a false complaint filed by the accused’s wife, Vasco Police arrested social activist, Tara Kerkar. To pacify the crowd instigated by the accused’s wife, the police booked Kerkar under Section 151,” Noronha said.
He said Kerkar is a well-known social worker and on one call can gather a large crowd before the police, if need be.
“We do not want to do that. We are law abiding citizens and we want to give the police sufficient time to book the accused’s wife for the false charge of assault foisted against Kerkar,” Noronha said.
The social activists said the situation in Vasco was vitiated and tense for their reason to address the media in Mapusa.
Kerkar had accompanied the minor victim’s mother to lodge complaint against the accused cleric, who had molested the minor victim girl, he said. It may be recalled that Vasco Police had arrested social activist, Tara Kerkar and Sushil Kumar on Wednesday last for allegedly assaulting and manhandling the wife of the alleged accused, who was arrested for allegedly molesting a 15-year-old girl.
On Monday last week, Vasco Police had arrested a cleric for allegedly molesting a 15-year-old girl. The police arrested the cleric Sarfraj Ahmed (32), a resident of Baina, after the girl’s mother lodged a complaint with the police.
