MAPUSA
In a decision that will come as a huge relief to traders, Mapusa Municipal Council has decided to grant a 2-month extension for renewal of licence so that traders can obtain a fire clearance certificate.
“We will grant a two-month extension to traders up to July end, for renewal of their licences,” said MMC Chairperson Rohan Kavlekar.
Every year, trade licences are renewed in April and May. Those who fail to pay up by May 31 have to then pay interest for delayed payment.
It may be recalled that traders were caught in a bind, as the collector had issued an order to all municipalities, panchayats and CCP not to renew trade licences unless the shop owners comply with the fire safety norms.
Meanwhile, the councilors of Mapusa civic body decided to ask students of St Xaviers’s College to do GIS mapping of the structures of every ward in Mapusa.
The chairperson informed that GIS mapping for the whole city will cost nothing less than Rs 80 lakh and the geology students of the college were willing to do it for free as part of their project assignment.
Assuring the councilors, he said a responsible officer of the municipality will accompany the students while collecting the data.
Councilor, Rajsingh Rane said that since there was no financial implication on the council it was prudent to start the process of collating
the data.
