A delegation comprising vegetables vendors Chandrakant Palyekar, Venka Rathod, Tanaji Raut, Subhash Kumbhar, Ranjan Pednekar and others met Falari at his office and put forth their issues. “In all, 20 vegetables vendors have erected vegetable stalls outside the market complex,” said a vegetable vendor. Another vegetable vendor complained that the business of the vendors from the new vegetable market complex is affected. “Customers buy vegetables from the vendors sitting outside the vegetable market,” he added. The agitators complained that some vendors sit near the mutton stalls and sell vegetables. “Initiate action against them or rehabilitate them into the new vegetable market,” demanded a vendor. The agitators said MMC staff take action against them and seize their items, but after sometimes they return to sell their items. They said the vegetable vendors sitting in the new vegetable market pay Sopo tax of Rs 20 and those sitting
outside pay Rs 10. Hence, vendors prefer to sit outside the complex. After listening to their grievances, MMC Chairperson Falari said the MMC market committee looks in the affairs of the market. “Solution will be arrived after discussing the issue with committee members and the market inspectors,” he added. Assuring that the problem will be solved within a week, Falari said: “MMC will provide photo identity card to the vendors soon and most of the issues will be solved.”
