The four-day cultural festival on the occasion of the Carnival celebration will kick off from February 26 and culminate with the float parade on March 1 in Mapusa.
Various events have been scheduled throughout the four-day festival which will be held in the fields adjacent to the Bodgeshwar Temple. The function will begin at 6 pm and wind up by 10 pm.
While on the first day (February 26), there will be a fancy dress competition and a performance by a Salsa Latin dance troupe, on February 27 there will be a western dance competition and a folk troupe performance.
Similarly, on February 28, a Bollywood dance troupe will be performing.
On the last day (March 1) the Carnival float parade will kick off at 4 pm from Asilo Old Age Home, Mapusa, which will be flagged off by former superintendent of police, Fintan D’Souza.
On all four days, there will be DJ music and a live band in attendance.
Since the election code of conduct is in force, the Carnival celebrations will be organised by the Chief Officer of the Mapusa Municipal Council and his staff.
“The tourism department along with the Mapusa Municipal Council will be organizing the four-day Carnival festival which will culminate with the float parade on March 1,” said Chief Officer Sitaram Sawal, who is the chairman of Mapusa Carnival Committee 2022.
The citizens of Mapusa led by former chairperson Michael Carrasco will assist the municipal officials to conduct the festival.
