Margao meet acclimatises bakers of trade formalities

MARGAO

The All Goa Bakers and Confectioners Association held a conference at Margao Municipal Council (MMC) hall, Margao, on Thursday, to facilitate an interaction between the bakers and the administrative officials - the Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) and Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB).

Addressing the bakers, Association convenor Peter Fernandes called upon the bakers to get themselves registered by complying with the necessary formalities such as filling of forms for obtaining the necessary licenses for plying their trade.

Fernandes informed bakers that he had discussed their problems with the GSPCB officials and had submitted a representation to the government to postpone the deadline for complying with the formalities.

He claimed that bakers will be forced to hike rate of 'Pao' in case the government does not 'support' them. “The price of 'Pao' will increase from Rs 3 to Rs 5,” he remarked.

Fernandes urged the government to simplify the procedure for obtaining firewood at the auction conducted by Forest officials. He also called on the bakers to get sewerage connections wherever possible.

Speaking at the conference, CP Jaggi of South Goa Hotels & Restaurants Association, said the hoteliers observe all the rules and regulations while the roadside eateries are left scot-free. He advocated similar rules for the roadside eateries as applicable to the hoteliers.

Jaggi also claimed hoteliers were willing to comply with all GSPCB formalities provided they were apprised of the same.

Later, GSPCB officials gave a presentation to the bakers to acclimatise them about the formalities.
