All Goa Purse-seine vessels Owners Association president Seby Cardozo feared that the ban on LED fishing may be implemented only in Goa, while leaving other States scott free. "We have not gone through the Centre's order as yet. Members will meet to discuss and chalk out action. My fear is that the ban order may be enforced only in Goa. This may defeat the very purpose of the order. Because in the past, the fishing bans were implemented only in Goa", he said, while promising to come out with a detailed statement after a study and after deliberations amongst the members.
President of the Cutbona Boat Owners Union Savio D'Silva said that an uniform ban on LED fishing and bull trawling may be welcome. He, however, hastened to know whether the coastal states will implement the order in letter and spirit as their track record is very bad. "We are against bull trawling to protect the marine resources. If the order bans bull trawling and fishing with LED lights, the Centre should ensure that it is implemented uniformly without any discrimination", Savio added.
