As Mhadei river dispute has triggered fresh tension between the BJP-ruled states of Goa and Karnataka, the BJP Goa resolved to take on its very own party in the adjoining southern State to freeze attempts of diverting water.
BJP State president Sadanand Shet Tanavade on Tuesday said that the party is leaving no stone unturned to convey to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his cabinet that approval of DPR for Kalasa-Bhandura project is a decision against the interest of Goa.
“The diversion of Mhadei river to Karnataka will have implications on Goa, particularly the talukas in the North district. We know it (the decision by the Centre) is unjust. We, therefore, resolved to demand that the Centre withdraw its order approving the DPR for the Kalasa and Bhandura project. The resolution copy will be handed over to PM Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and BJP National President J P Nadda,” he said.
With the Opposition continuing its scathing attack on the government, the BJP core committee held a closed-door meeting on Monday night. A separate meeting of all its units was also held wherein the members of BJP-ruling local bodies were directed to take resolutions on the withdrawal of the controversial order.
“These resolution copies will also be submitted to the Centre. These representatives are also asked to send letters or write emails to the PM about how the order will affect Goa, and that it be withdrawn in Goa’s interest. Karnataka should not start the work as we will also approach the Supreme Court,” Tanavade, who addressed the media along with Advocate Narendra Sawaikar and Damu Naik at the party headquarters in Panaji, said.
Further, the BJP karyakartas have been asked to launch signature campaigns in their respective jurisdiction.
The BJP Goa has found itself in a tight situation as the matter is turning quite serious between the BJP-ruled states while Centre’s inclination towards Karnataka has reflected the dark side of the ‘double engine governance.
BJP slams Oppn for refusing
to attend all-party meeting

The BJP Goa has come down heavily on the Opposition parties for refusing to attend the all-party meeting called by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to discuss the Mhadei matter. BJP State president Sadanand Shet Tanavade sought to know if its opponent parties were concerned about the Mhadei only for media attention.
“It was disheartening to see that the Opposition parties did not turn up for the meeting. They have stopped our leaders from talking…Are they shouting on top of their voice for media coverage? Why can’t the opposition leaders stand in unity to press for the demand in Goa’s interest?” he questioned.
