SOME ARE RETURNING TO THEIR JOBS, OTHERS ARE HOPEFUL OF LANDING WORK

Migrant workers from north K’taka board buses for Goa

With the re-opening of borders and resumption of bus services, scores of migrant workers from Belagavi and north Karnataka have now started going back to Goa, either to return to their jobs or to look out for new jobs.

With Goa opening up its borders and NWKRTC buses resuming their services to Goa, several people boarded the Goa-bound bus on Monday to go to Goa, as industries, trades and construction activities have resumed in the coastal state.

Many youngsters from Belagavi, Vijaypur, Athani, Chikkodi, Raibag, Bagalkot and other areas reached Belagavi along with their families and boarded buses to Goa.

“I had to leave Goa in very adverse conditions and was waiting for things to be normal so that I could join my job and start earning for my family,” a youth who works at a beach hotel.

He expressed gratitude to the Goa government and the NWKRTC and KTC bus authorities for restarting the bus services.

Another worker who works at an industrial area said though he was getting a call from his employers, he couldn’t go to Goa as there was no transport available.

After over five months of hardship, their smiles are now expected to return as these workers are expected to join their work back in Goa, earning a living for themselves and their families behind.
