A minibus parked opposite Deepvihar High School at Headland Sada in Mormugao was gutted in fire on Thursday evening.
According to sources, the minibus (GA-03-T-4451) suddenly caught fire and was gutted before a fire tender could reach the site.
There was no one in the minibus when the fire broke out and the driver, a resident of Headland Sada, had parked the vehicle and had gone to his house for lunch.
When contacted, Mormugao Police stated that they received a call at around 5 pm and rushed to the site.
The police said an MPT fire tender doused the fire, but confirmed that the minibus was destroyed in the fire. A short circuit in the battery is believed to have started the fire. The Mormugao police is investigating the case.
