The Rumdamol Housing Board may be known for the wrong reason, being a communally sensitive area.

The village on Monday, however, has shown the way for others to emulate, as the village inaugurated a mini-market which will take care of the vendors squatting on the road.

That’s not all. Rumdamol is presently engaged in door-to-door waste collection and has also set up a MRF facility in place.

Speaking after inaugurating the mini-market in Rumdamol built under the Zilla Panchayat funds, Navelim MLA Ulhas Tuemkar said similar markets will be built in other villages in Navelim constituency if the local bodies make available suitable land.

“I had taken up the mini-market at Rumdamol village under the ZP funds when I was the Zilla panchayat member. The project was restricted to a mini-market since the ZP could spend only Rs 15 lakh on a project”, he said.

Ulhas pointed that villages in Navelim  constituency including Davorlim, Aquem-Baixo, Navelim and Telaulim should come up with market proposals, promising to pursue them with the government on condition the land is readily available.

“Today Rumdamol has set up this infrastructure which will go a long way in getting the vendors into the market. The village has also set in motion door-to-door waste collection and is treating the daily garbage,” he said.

Sarpanch Vinayak Volvoikar and Panchayat members were present for the market inauguration.
