Mining major Sesa Goa has claimed responsibility for the muddy water and clay entering public roads and has vowed to clean up the area.

“We appeal to all the people in the nearby areas not to panic or alarm and assure you that we are always proactive to your concerns and work for your safety and sustenance,” the company said. “Sudden unprecedented deluge due to pre-monsoon showers caused water and muddy clay from our NSP mine in Bicholim to overflow and come on to the public road. Our teams swung into action to immediately clear up the mud and the water in surrounding environs. A large portion of the cleaning has been done by now and very soon the entire area will be cleared,” the company said in a statement.
The heavy pre-monsoon rains on Monday evening washed away the slurry from a muddy road leading to a mine in Bicholim into houses and shops, causing huge damage.According to reports, on Monday night, boulders came crashing down, while the slurry was washed down in parts of Bicholim city, Sunder Peth, Atil Peth and petrol pump area.
