An accident involving a car and two-wheeler at Colmorod, and in which the rider and pillion rider were injured, raised an uproar on Thursday noon, with locals demanding traffic regulation by the traffic police in view of the sewerage works being executed along the road.
Even as the duo were rushed to Goa Medical college and hospital, Bambolim with fracture injuries, local residents questioned the absence of traffic police in regulating the traffic flow along the flyover-Navelim Church stretch of NH-17. The residents pointed out that in the absence of traffic regulation, both the incoming and outgoing traffic ply in the single lane with the second lane closed for traffic because of the sewerage works, resulting in a number of accidents.
Colmorod ward councillor Sheikh Jaffer told the media that a number of accidents have taken place on the Colmorod stretch of the highway, but lamented that the ground reality remains unchanged for want of traffic regulation.
A local resident Mathew pointed out that unless the traffic police stops plying of both incoming and outgoing traffic in a single lane, accidents will continue along the stretch, which may even result in a fatality.
