MMC chairman stresses on branding, packaging of traditional Goan food

Mapusa Municipal Council, Chairperson, Rohan Kavlekar stressed on branding and packaging of traditional Goan food products to make it more attractive and to gain a wider reach.

“Many consumers relish our traditional Goan food products but when they go to buy the product, a certain amount of doubt creeps in their mind on the quality and duration of the product. Only branding can eliminate the doubt of people’s mind,” Kavlekar said.   
The MMC chairperson was speaking after inaugurating an outlet of the Ruchik Consumers Co-operative Society Ltd at Khorlim in Mapusa on Sunday.   
The consumer society will market all type of Goan speciality consumable items like papad, pickle, vodyo, kokam, jamun squash, jams, masala, etc.   
Speaking further, Kavlekar said the society should attract customers by offering quality products and maintaining good relations with consumers.   
GSUDA Vice-Chairman, Sandip Falari said besides the local customers the society should tap the tourists visiting the State.   
“The society should make an effort to spread the word of the traditional Goan food items among the tourists. There are millions of tourists visiting the State every year. We need to push and market our Goan food products among the tourists,” Falari said.   
He congratulated the society for giving Goans an opportunity to market their home-made products in their new venture.   
Former assistant registrar, V B Devidas said initially the locals will have to support the cooperative society to survive and grow.   
“Support from local people will help the society to survive and thrive,”Former assistant registrar said.   
He also stressed on branding of the products which will help in gaining bigger market for the traditional food products.   
The former assistant registrar urged the directors of the society not to restrict only to Mapusa but to make the marketing network strong to gain wider reach.   
Earlier, chairman of Ruchik Consumers Co-operative Society Ltd, 
Narayan Karekar welcomed the gathering and spoke about the initiative.
