The MMC has also decided to institute an award in memory of late Ashlesha with Chairperson Babita Angle saying the civic body will call for suggestions from the city fathers and members of the public on the subject.
Speaking on the occasion, Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai said that Ashlesha was a brave heart, who lost her life while trying to save a boy from drowning, while urging the MMC to pass a resolution and send it to the Centre.
“There ought to be no politics on this issue. Ashlesha has shown to the entire country that there are selfless elected representatives. She was indeed a brave heart. This needs to be acknowledged and recognized by the society,” he said.
Paying rich tributes to the departed councillor, Margao MLA Digambar Kamat said that Ashlesha had the quality of serving and helping people around her. “This quality in her we were able to see till her last when she tried to save a boy from drowning,” he added. Chairperson Babita Angle Prabhudesai said that late Ashlesha had proved within a short time in the municipality her concern towards the municipal workers and their welfare.
