MARGAO

The Margao Municipal Council on Wednesday

resumed its anti-encroachment drive confiscating consumer items, besides fruits and vegetables from the Gogol area of the city.

The cost of the confiscated goods was pegged at around Rs 50,000.

MMC market inspector Seema Godge led the MMC workers in confiscating the goods which were stored on a footpath and passage meant for the public.

Given that there is no vacant space left on the ground floor of the municipal building, which is already used for the storage of goods, the confiscated goods were all stored upstairs.

At the last meeting of the council, it was resolved to auction the confiscated goods if the owners failed to take possession within a time frame and after paying a fine of Rs 25 per cent of the total cost of the goods.
