Saligao MLA Kedar Naik handed over mobile mortuary units each to the Guirim and Sangolda panchayats.
The mobile mortuary units were handed over in the presence of Guirim Sarpanch Kalpesh Naik, Sangolda Sarpanch Minolete Lopes, Guirim Dy Sarpanch Shreya Naik, panchayat members Sukanti Kandolkar, Shubham Rao Dessai, Babaji Gadekar, Dalini Franco, Avinash Naik, Nilkanth Naik, Neeta Kandolkar, Vilma Alvares and local residents.
Speaking on the occasion, Kedar Naik stated that some residents of Guirm and Sangolda, especially the Catholic and Muslim communities, are working abroad.
“If their relative residing in Reis Guirim and Sangolda dies, it takes 2-3 days for them to reach Goa. The body then has to be preserved in the morgue of Goa Medical College Hospital at Bambolim and family members face hardships if there is no space at the GMC mortuary to preserve the body,” said Naik.
“There was a persistent demand from both Sangolda and Gurim Panchayats for a portable mobile morgue. One such morgue will be delivered to Nerul panchayat shortly. This facility will provide much-needed support to the community and help ease the difficulties faced by families during challenging times.”
Stating that the construction of Sangolda crematorium has begun and will be completed soon, the MLA added that work of the Sangolda Panchayat Ghar is nearing completion.Guirim Sarpanch Kalpesh Naik and Sangolda Sarpanch Minolete Lopes also spoke on the occasion.
