The three BJP legislators from Mormugao taluka met Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL) CMD Brijesh Upadhyay on Saturday, to demand employment opportunities for Goans, with a preference to people from Mormugao taluka.
Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho along with Vasco MLA Krishna Salkar and Mormugao MLA Sankalp Amonkar submitted a representation to Upadhyay during the meeting.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Godinho said such a request would be made to other central organisations in Mormugao taluka, like the Airports Authority of India, Mormugao Port Authority, Indian Navy and others.
“Our meeting was to demand job opportunity for Goans especially with preference from Mormugao Taluka and we have asked them to consider locals when there is a vacancy in their organisation,” said Godinho.
We have said there should not be any social tensions due to jobs being given to outsiders and GSL has informed that the organisation has been giving preference to locals in the recruitment for the last twenty years and they have said that they will submit to us the entire list of recruitment of Goans in the company.”
“While employment was the main issue raised, we also discussed on development works that could be taken in collaboration with GSL in the entire taluka.”
Vasco MLA Krishna Salkar and Mormugao MLA Sankalp Amonkar also spoke on the occasion.
