After repeated attempts to ensure that tourists with no visible traffic violations are not subjected to harassment by traffic police, the Goa Police is expected to soon launch an app developed by engineering students to prevent frequent checks on compliant visitors.
The mobile application will feature a QR code indicating a clear record of traffic violations. Tourists travelling either in outstation vehicles or rentals can display this QR code if stopped by the police at different places, to confirm their compliance with traffic regulations.
The app was part of a larger initiative during the Goa Police Hackathon 2024, held from September 27-29, which was aimed at empowering young innovators to create impactful solutions for contemporary policing challenges.
The hackathon focused on three main categories -- national security, internal efficiency improvement within the police force and enhancing public interaction. Participants tackled eight critical problems, with solutions ranging from AI-based fraud detection systems to mobile applications for real-time parking space tracking.
Among the standout projects showcased were the AI/ML System for Detecting Fraudulent Online Platforms, an AI-Based Tool to Analyze Religious Preaching for Radical Content, and the Mobile Application for Traffic Violation Checks.
“This hackathon is a testament to the Prime Minister’s vision, enabling young innovators to create transformative tools that can revolutionise policing across India,” DGP Alok Kumar said.
