Even as Goa's taxi operators continue to oppose the app-based taxi services in the State, licensed motorcycle taxi pilots are embracing technology with the launch of the Majhe Driver app, enabling commuters to book motorcycle taxis from anywhere in Goa.

The Goa Motorcycle Taxi Rider's Association, in coordination with Graceful Goa Superapp Pvt Ltd and the Directorate of Transport, will officially launch the app on July 6.

The launch marks the State's first organised digital booking platform exclusively for motorcycle taxi services and is expected to bring nearly 10,000 licensed motorcycle pilots onto a common technology platform, significantly expanding their reach beyond conventional taxi stands.

As per the press statement, the app has been designed to modernise motorcycle taxi operations by allowing commuters to book rides conveniently from anywhere in Goa, improving last-mile connectivity while providing riders with greater business opportunities through digital trip bookings.

Unlike the conventional system where passengers are required to locate pilots at designated stands, the app will allow riders to receive bookings across the State, enhancing accessibility and reducing waiting time for commuters.

The platform has been developed by Graceful Goa Superapp Pvt. Ltd., a startup recognised under the Goa Startup Policy, in collaboration with the Goa Motor Cycle Taxi Rider's Association. Besides expanding digital access, the initiative also envisages future support for transitioning motorcycle pilots from conventional fuel-powered bikes to electric two-wheelers, promoting sustainable mobility.

The launch assumes significance against the backdrop of the prolonged resistance by Goa's taxi unions to app-based taxi aggregators, with operators repeatedly opposing digital platforms forcing the government to keep on hold the Goa Taxi policy until elections.

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant will launch the app in the presence of Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho and other dignitaries.

The Majhe Driver app will be available for download on both the Google Play Store and Apple App Store.
