While the government’s promise to repair all roads before Ganesh Chaturthi has remained a mere lip service, motorists as well as pedestrians are left to fend for themselves.
The story is no different at Nagarcem where half a kilometre of NH-66 road has disappeared making it a nightmare for motorists.
It’s been a fortnight that motorists as well as pedestrians traversing from Char-Rasta to Chaudi are witnessing the potholes at Nagarcem only growing in size due to the heavy rains battering the taluka.
This road was particularly excavated to lay higher dimension pipeline as part of upgrading for pumping of water from Chapoli dam to the water treatment plant at Shristhal. This damaged highway road carpet was never repaired in a proper manner.
Time and again traffic there have been traffic interruptions at this junction, while PWD (Highways) only provided lip service on taking up repairs.
The road has turned from bad to worse and the recent spells of rain have further aggravated the road condition. This road is an important and prime link between Char-Rasta to Chaudi.
Including the local traffic, hundreds of heavy and otherwise highway vehicles transverse on this road.
The road has particularly turned accident-prone because of motorists
riding and driving in a haphazard manner to escape the craters.
