MARGAO
The Aquem-Baixo Panchayat on Saturday demanded that the government name the South Goa District Hospital after Dr Jack Sequeira, even as the panchayat reiterated its demand for the installation of the leader's statue in the state assembly complex.
Addressing the media along with panchayat members, Aquem-Baixo Sarpanch Siddesh Bhagat also requested all the panchayats to dispatch letters to the Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar to install Dr Jack Sequeira's statue in the assembly and also name the South G
oa District Hospital after the Father of the Opinion Poll.
"Two years ago, I had submitted a letter to then Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar demanding the installation of Dr Jack Sequeira's statue in the assembly. Till date, however, no such step has been taken by the government, but we will continue with our demand," Siddesh said.
"Today, because of Dr Jack Sequeira, these ministers are enjoying royal treatment or by now they would have been either working under some IT company or pharmaceutical company in some part of Maharashtra," he said, while further demanding inclusion of a chapter on the Opinion Poll in the school syllabus.
"I have been demanding Dr Sequeira's statue in the assembly not to win election but for pride of a Goemkar in the assembly complex," he said, while requesting TCP Minister Vijai Sardesai to pursue his demand and also to name the district hospital after the great leader.
"As a proud Navelkar, I also demand that a small statue of Dr Jack Sequeira be installed in Navelim constituency as the people of this village had cast the highest number of votes against the merger in the Opinion poll," he said, adding that the Aquem-Baixo Panchayat will undertaken a host of programmes during the Opinion Poll celebrations.
