PORVORIM
The residents of Nerul called on the office of Assistant Engineer (Water Department) of the Public Works Department (PWD) on Friday and complained to the Assistant Engineer about non-receipt of water for the last month.
Sudha Borkar mentioned to the Assistant Engineer, Dattaram Raikar, that some residents have not received water for more than a month now. They have brought this to the attention of the panchayat, but in vain. The residents have been forced to hire private tankers, paying hefty charges. Borkar mentioned that it is difficult to get PWD tankers.
Raikar, informed the Nerul residents that the water treatment plant at Porvorim is not functioning presently due to non-receipt of water from Tillari. Hence, PWD is forced to supply some quantity of water to the residents of Porvorim received from the Assnora Treatment plant, which is why a lesser quantity of water is being pumped to Verem sump presently, and from Verem sump, water is then supplied to Nerul.
Since Nerul is at the tail end, those residents do not get water. Water is being supplied to the residents of Verem and Nerul alternately. To resolve this water problem, it has been proposed to lay a one-kilometer separate pipeline from PWD sump at PDA colony, Porvorim, to Verem sump. Once this pipeline is laid, there will be sufficient water supply to Verem and Nerul, said Raikar.
Raikar further mentioned that the WRD has confirmed that the Tillari dam repair works have been nearly completed, and the Tillari dam authorities will release the water from December 23. Further, it takes one or two days for the water to reach Porvorim water treatment plant from Tillari, depending on the water pressure.
As soon as the water is received by the Porvorim reservoir, the water treatment plant will be restarted, and water will be released to the residents of Porvorim regularly. Then PWD will have a sufficient stock of water received from the Assnora water treatment plant, which will be diverted to Verem and Nerul, added Raikar.
